Who is responsible for your data

What we collect
- Messages you send us through the contact form or by email: your name, email address, the subject and your message.
- Server logs kept by our hosting provider when any page is requested: IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. Every website receives this information; we use it only to keep the site secure and working.
- Two items in your browser's local storage, described in our cookie policy. They never leave your device.
We do not use analytics, advertising pixels, social media plugins, embedded videos, external fonts or any other third-party service that could track you. We do not create accounts and we never ask for payment details.

Why we use it, and on what lawful basis
- To reply to your message and to correct our entries: our legitimate interest in answering readers and keeping the site accurate.
- To protect the site against abuse and diagnose faults using server logs: our legitimate interest in running a secure website.
- To meet legal obligations, if a regulator or court requires information.

How long we keep it
We keep messages for up to 12 months after our last reply, then delete them, unless a correction or complaint needs them for longer. Server logs are kept by our host only for as long as needed for security and are then deleted. Local storage items stay on your device until you clear them.

Who we share it with
Our hosting and email providers process data on our behalf under contract. We do not sell personal data and we never pass it to gambling operators. If a provider processes data outside the United Kingdom, we rely on an adequacy decision or the UK's approved data transfer safeguards.

Your rights
Under the UK GDPR you can ask to see the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to how we use it and to receive a copy in a portable format. Write to hello@gamblingatlas.co.uk; we reply within one month.
You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk (opens in a new tab) or on 0303 123 1113.

Children
Gambling Atlas is for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18; if you believe we have, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle personal data, for example by adding a service that sets cookies, we will update this page and its date before the change takes effect.
